By loosening the 2 bolts that hold the grey column bracket to the dash. 1/2 wench does the trick, when they are loose you can slide the grey part in and out to get 1-2 plane and 3-4 plane in the right spot. Usually have to adjust this if the car hit something.
Shift lever is default in 3-4 plane, pull it back toward you to find 1-2 plane.
When it is in neutral pull the lever towards right door, and then back towards you and down and that is reverse. You can look at the shift linkage as it enters the top of the gearbox and see if you get the gear positions right. Always use freewheel.
Save yourself a bunch of grief and put on a complete new exhaust system. 2 strokes need to breathe.
