From your description, it sounds to me like something dry grinding when it is moved. It could be a dry bushing on one of the a-arms, a shock or the swaybar. (My '67 had a front swaybar; my '71 didn't) Or it might be a balljoint or tierod end. With all the wheels on the ground, bounce each corner of the car and feel each of the pivoting joints. (Sometimes you can feel something easier than you can hear it.)
