Some of those fuses are plastic and some are ceramic. Some are aluminum and some are brass, or brass plated. The aluminum ones corrode badly, the plastic insulators melt from the heat.
"Spade" fuses are what is on many new cars and they won't fit in the 99 fuse boxes. What you want to do is replace all of the ones you have with the proper amperage glass "Buss" brand fuses. The style is GBC (has pointed ends) and the ratings are available in 5, 8, 16 and 25. There is also a short 25 available that was used in the older Volvos. Try your local NAPA dealer for these.
