If you take the switch off and look at the face of the plug that disapears with the wirling into the firewall (wires going to fuze box) than you will probably see a socket with like 10 to 15 holes. Usually (On my last two 99's) only 3 of these will be live (line with metal inside the hole). One is constant power and the other two are going to the fan at different resistances. If resistor is ok, (in the engine compartment) then try a combo of the three wires to see if the swich is faulty. I used a rotary switch from a VW golf and addapted it to the existing socket.
