Wow this problem sounds very familar.
You are going from a single carb with two outlets to the single that only has one....it took me ages to figure it out and I could not get a straight answer on this board. I hope this answer will make your job easier.
What you need to do is plug the exit hose from the carb into a T piece. One end of this T piece needs to go into the water pump somewhere (usually via the hose exiting the radiator) while the other end will plug straight to the heater control valve for your heater. The T piece will now act as a bypass for water flowing out of the carb and either into the heater when the valve is open or bypass the heater valve when closed.
As far as I can tell the factory twin carb set up has this T piece built into the rubber hose, I used brass T pieces instead and the mod provided above can made to look quiet neat if done carefully but will involve lots of hoseclamps and short bits of rubber.
And now for the bad news......the twin carb setup will probably be only marginally better than the single, and probably not worth the effort...unless you are a saab nut like me.
Hope this helps
Justin
