Many thanks for the info. That was great. I'm in Mt Hawthorn and the car is currently living in Balga. I will call Kieth and I'd be surprised if he doesn't know this car. The owner told me that it has symptoms very similar to the wastegate problem you describe (hits a brick wall at particular revs). I didn't pick it because I couldn't bring myself to flog the poor thing as it was pre-igniting fit to go bang when the turbo cut in. Overall it is tatty but mainly original car with minor rust, a bad paint job and in dire need of tune up. Having said that, it stops, goes and has all the wacky Saab features I like and bloody hell is it hot under the bonnet!
I'll keep you posted but may very well not buy this one (advertised for A$1700 and probably get it for A$1500 or less). How many in WA and any good ones??
