The fourt/reveres gear problem sounds like the reverse gear lock is broken or damaged. I would think plastic selector plate underneath the gear stick is broken or worn. This is a relatively simple part to replace. Alternatively a spring on the gear stick that engages the lock mechanism may be damaged, and I am sure this part can also be replaces/repaired. Either way the 4th/reverese gear problem should not be terminal.

The rough idle when warm could be many things ranging from a manifold/vacum leak to dud injectors. Best you get that checked out by a mechanic.
