"Here goes.....New radiator, rebuilt engine & brand new water pump, new thermostat, new hoses, THE LOT ! The thermostat I first had in was an 87 degree. It overheated but only after 60mph, so swapped for an 83 degree. Now, the gauge creeps up to just above normal, then all of a sudden shoots back down to normal, then starts to creep up, then shoots back down etc etc. Air lock I hear you say but it has been bled so many times I refuse to believe it. Anybody any ideas?" (sez glyn)
No ideas without more information. Year, model, engine type, stock or modified, under what conditions does it overheat, what is the evidence for overheating (which could be different from a high gauge indication), which thermostat is stock, do you know how to tell if the system is full of coolant or has trapped air, when you talk of the gauge shooting up, down, etc, does this continue no matter how long you drive or is it temporary, how many rows in the radiator, what brand of waterpump, ...................
