Adam, a set of front pads consists of 2 right, 2 left. I believe the 2 right are identical and the 2 left identical. On each side, one shoe (inner or outer, I don't remember) is thicker when new at the top, the other at the bottom. The caliper design is unusual, I don't recall seeing it on other cars, but it is probably used elsewhere. If you look closely at the caliper you will see that it pivots at the bottom so that as the pads wear their backing plates, which started out off-parallel to the rotor, become more and more parallel/vertical to the rotor. When the backing plates are parallel to the rotor it is time to change pads. I doubt that you can obtain pads for 1 wheel only. OK?
