Not sure if you have a 2-stroke or V4. If the linkage has been working fine I doubt it is that. I had the same problem about 3 years ago. I drove 75 miles without a problem, parked the car, and when I went to drive it again - it was locked in third. Ultimately, it was a frozen syncro. However, try this. 1. make sure you have oil in the tranny. 2. Carefully, support the car and get the front wheels off the ground. Start it- with clutch in - let the clutch out and drive the wheels and see if you can get it to shift. It may not help, but worth a try. Just make sure you use something solid to support the car - you don't want it hitting the ground while spinning the wheels. I had to remove the tranny, top cover and tried getting it to release, but in the end it was a total rebuild.
Good luck.
