Just a little thought that I neglected to mention.

If anyone comes down for "Tail of the Dragon" (US 129 from about the Foothills Parkway, east of Maryville, to Tapoco, NC vicinity), there are a number of entertaining and scenic connecting roads. You can run a loop of US129 and NC28. And a run past the Joyce Kilmer National Forest -- and a short hike there -- is very worthwhile. The run down NC 28 past Fontana Village and Fontana Dam is entertaining road, as well, and beautiful country.

And taking in the Cherohala Skyway (which can take you back to Maryville by way of Tellico Plains, TN) is another worthy side-trip.
