Hi Jason S (and others planning to caravan to SOC '03),
We'd be pleased to join up with you to caravan down on Thursday. I checked out your web page, and that old orange beauty looks like she is in great shape. I have sort of a soft spot for old orange 99's myself : my Dad had one ('76), and he and my brother put 262,000+ miles on her until the odometer bought the farm. That car helped start me on the road to Saab Geekdom.
Your route is the one we also planned to take, as we make the journey back that way regularly to visit family, 35 miles south of Hershey in York. We haven't bothered with the NYC routes for over 20 years - you're just asking for trouble, especially with a manual tranny. No thanks. Of course, you pay for that by having to deal with the #*@$-in' tractor trailers on the hills of US 81. I've driven this route twice in the last 2 months, and that was some of the most dangerous interstate crap I've ever witnessed. Let me just say it was worse at night, so I'm glad we'll be passing through there in the afternoon.
Our plan was to leave around 9:00 AM from our place in Derry, NH : that puts us only a little ahead of your proposed schedule. We have not done the "caravan" thing to a Saab event before, so I'm sure others (with previous caravan experience) will chime in here on the how and where's and when's of meeting up. I know there is a new Rest Area (now with inside toilets!) off of 495 in Chelmsford, just past the Route 3 junction : that is a possible meeting point. There is also a Rest Area on the Mass. Pike (in Charlton) where more southerly Saabers could also join in, as well as one about 15 miles into Conn. on US 84.
We're taking our GreyViggen coupe - we'll be easy to spot. The plate is "SCANIA", which only means something to other Saab geeks with the inside scoop. OK, that's 2 of us for the NE SOC '03 Caravan : let's hear from the rest of yas ...
