Toreador red was used from 1959-1974, and all the chips I found showed it being dark(burgundy) also. I know for a fact that 99's came in that color, but they were RED, not burgundy. I also have books with color pictures in them showing 96's and 99's in RED.
Best I can suggest is to mix some, or get some mixed...that is if you can get the formula, and see what it really looks like.
I can mix PPG formulas at work, but I didn't find the PPG formula code in my searches > and I don't think we have books that go back that far, but I'll look in the morning.
Saab code R2 also came up in my search as did SAA 310 for toreador red(light red)...ICI ref number 6446.
