Noisy Timing Chain Posted by Saabstory [Email] (#1919) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Saabstory) on Mon, 15 Mar 2004 04:48:11 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
My mechanic diagnosed my 96 900 with a noisy timing chain. Makes a high pitch noise when cold but goes away after warm-up. Sounds like I have a super-charger. He suggested 20w50 oil which I switched to this weekend. It didn't make a difference. The car has 128000 miles on it(1996). Question-should I spend 500 to 600 dollars to repair or keep driving? Can this chain break? I don't care about the supercharger sound at warm-up. Thanks
