Lee,
I have a 97 SE 5 speed that I picked up last year with 65,000 miles for $10 grand. Because of this board, I was able to pinpoint the "squeaky" idler pulley and have the dealer repair it prior to purchase. Many on here have done the short belt conversion. When I bought mine, the top would hit the tonneau cover on the way down. That got fixed when some yahoo contractor tried to force the tonneau open by hand. (He wanted to put my car outside with the top up while I was away.) That cost me a little over $2 grand, but hey, it fixed the top hitting the tonneau problem. The 4 cyl. turbo screams and is really easy to drive. It's never let me down and certainly doesn't have any of the lighting issues of my C900. Watch the pixels on the CEL/Info center, mine play hide and seek, but everything continues to work. From what I understand, newer versions have less cowl shake, but mine is really noticeable on our lovely Michigan roads. It's about my only complaint. I'm fortunate, there are only about 4-5 convertible's in my area and I have the only Monte Carlo Yellow. The only other thing that I have done is to put new spark plugs in and new rims. I bent mine on a blow on our lovely roads here. Be sure to use the archives for the proper spark plug. The local parts store gave me what the book calls for and it's NOT the one to use. Yell if you want more notes or thoughts.
