reverse issue - beating a dead horse sorry....

Ok, so I spoke with a friend of mine's husband (he's a tech over at Barrier Saab) about my issue with my 94 900s popping out of reverse, and he said that the issue is probably either the clutch cable needing to be adjusted or my tranny just being screwed.
Sorry for going over a well-covered topic on this BB, but I want to get input from all of you who've had a similar problem on their pre-upgraded linkage 900.
I figure if the clutch cable needs to be adjusted or replaced, it would effect all the other gears - not just reverse, right? My friend's husband (the Saab tech) told me that if the linkage were the problem - that it would effect all the gears as well, not just reverse. The thing is, I've read several posts with exactly the same symptoms (grinds occasionally going into reverse even with clutch all the way down, pops out of reverse occasionally, no other gears effected) and getting the upgraded linkage installed solved the problem.... and they were given the same diagnosis from a mechanic.
Just to give you some background, my 900s has been totally babied - with dealer service up until 51k miles (I bought it a week ago with 57k on it). This wasn't reported as an issue before on the dealer service checks...
Any input and advice would be welcome - I'm thinking that I'll probably end up putting the new linkage in there because it's a pretty inexpensive and easy DIY, but I want to see what you guys think first.
Thanks so much!
Sung
