Stalling 900 SE..how to test sensors & fuel pressure? Posted by Vic [Email] (#2192) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Vic) on Thu, 6 May 2004 15:15:42 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
My 1994 Saab 900 SE turbo is stalling....that's not accurate..it is just shutting down while I'm driving. It starts easy and idles fine on cold starts but after it's driven for a while it starts acting up and it's difficult to restart. I left it with a mechanic for a week and he couldn't get it to repeat or register a code, but on the way home from the mechanic it started again. The CEL comes on when this happens and the turbo guage doesn't register boost while the problem is active....I don't know if this is the real problem or an ECU adaptation to the problem, but if I let the car sit for a while she starts up with no hesitation and runs clean until the problem starts again.I've changed the spark plugs, cleaned the TB and AIC. There is no obvious vacuum line problem to the TB or MAP sensor, the bypass valve holds a vacuum when the diaphragm is pushed in, the only wiring problem that I see is the radiator fan has some cracks and some exposed wiring which in my mind can't be giving me the CEL. I want to check the fuel pressure, but I'm not a mechanic so I don't know what that entails and what is normal/abnormal. I also want to test MAP sensor and the throttle body position sensor based on others who've experienced a similar on this bb, but I need to know specifics on how and what the norms are. For those who are expert DIY mechanics, please send me some advice and directions and I'll post the progress or lack of progress on trouble shooting this annoyance. I've been down for 4 weeks.
Thanks in advance for any advice and Thanks for the great BB
