A-Rx & dino misconception

I've used A-Rx in: all three of our Saabs' engines, two of the transmissions, & one of the power steering units (it's used in different ratios for all three of these oil-based systems). My experience has been that it actually works better if you're willing to leave it in longer than suggested.
The common misconception is that conventional (dino) oil must be used. In fact, any oil can be used; but leaking seals & heavy sludge respond better (that is to say, more quickly) to using A-Rx with a Group I, II, II+ or III oil.
For a Saab turbo engine, I wouldn't use anything less than a Group III oil. The Shell Rotella T Synthetic & made-in-the-US-versions of Castrol Syntec are examples of excellent Group III oils. If you're simply doing a general cleaning, the current A-Rx instructions are good for any oil on the market, whether it's dino or synthetic. This includes premium Group IV oils like Mobil 1 & Amsoil, & even high ester content (Group V) oils like Redline.
