Went to Pizza Hut (mmm... Lunch Buffet!!) then popped over to Target. Came out from Target and wouldn't start. Original thought was DI, swapped, and no luck. Towed to shop nearby to replace. $$$ I was stuck in Rochester (live in Buffalo). But thanks to Al and Pat over at Impact Motors (for car - bought 2.5 years ago and service when I was in Roch and didn't DIY)!
Was told 2 things to always watch out for with these cars - fuel pump and DIC. Was ready for DIC, but not FP, and did not know to expect it. I guess those were some of the few posts I did not read.
Read it here that it was ~$800-1K, as the part was $400+. I paid a bit over $500, and it looks like IM used a "generic" fuel pump, which lowered the cost considerably. Would have tried it myself, but $400 part I did not have, the need to lower the gas tank (had 3/4 of a tank full), stuck in the front of a Target parking lot, few tools, 100 miles from home, all dissuaded me from attempting this at the time.
Happy Bday to me. But 132K miles, I can't complain if I get half that on the new one. In addition, I am still plugging along on the original DI (*knock on wood). Would have been nice to spend that $ on new shocks or a few more performance upgrades instead.
