I had that once in my first saab, 85 900 s. It started right after I had replaced the exhaust system. I spent hours taking the system off and reinstalling it trying to get the clunk to go away. I finally wedged pieces of 2X4's against the pipes to be sure they couldn't move and drove around the block. That's when I realized the clunk wasn't the exhaust. It turned out that the rubber bushing on the top of the frong shock had warn out and that was the clunk.
Don't know if this helps, but it's my story and I'm sticking to it.
