It's big chances that the Speedometer computer went bad in that pothole.
The whole rear section of the speedo cluster is the circuit board and computer.
The back of plastic housing pretty much rides (rubs against)a steel beam inside dash.
I have had people complaining about rattle that sounds like coming from the left speaker but it is infact the speedo touching that steel frame.
Maybe the pothole sent such a shiver through that steel frame and subsequently speedo cluster that something broke inside.
By the use of Tech 2 scanner you can force run the different gauges and determine if it is the gauge or something else.
To remove speedo you need to first remove the whole center dash. It's not really that much work but it can be tricky to find all the screws hidden.
You can do a search here because I think it has been talked about before.
