Tonneau motor/"check latches" chime

I need to install a new tonneau motor/drive unit on my ’95 SE turbo convertible. Not a problem, once I purchase a rebuilt model instead of a new $1,200 one. I also understand that the top has to be “timed” or “tuned”, which I can not do myself. In the meantime the top has been manually latched closed but now the bell keeps chiming telling my “check latches”. 1) how can I stop this? Will disconnecting the old drive unit do this? I can’t find a fuse for the top, I thought that would work. 2) how do you manually latch the top down to the tonneau cover? I had SAAB do it the first time and I don’t want to pay another $95 for them to do it again when I begin monky’n with the old drive unit trying to fix it. 3) is it possible to manually raise and lower the top (and have it latch) instead of using the motor all the time? I knew the first time I put that top down that not only did my 9 year old motor have a half life but that it would be wicked expensive to fix when it decided to retire.
