First and foremost, thanks to Redmontage. If you need to replace a fuel pump on your NG900, see his page at http://www.cooliemail.com/saab-fuel-pump.html.
I recently paid a local garage to replace my pump. I had to bicycle to Napa to get the pump because he only wanted to install the spendy Saab assembly. The he didn't want to use hi pressure fuel line for the small hoses as he said it would disintegrate in the fuel. Warning signals.
Then he took a week or so. After a few more days, he said it was wasn't starting and was probably the computer. Please take it away.
What was I to do? I paid him what I thought was a fair $520 Cdn for the work and towed it home. I didn't have money to chance having a Saab dealer hose me so I figured I'd wait till I had time to investigate. I did some investigation when the weather was warm. Hm, I turn key and fuel pump sounds like it runs. I don't think that's a computer problem. I removed FPR and no fuel comes out. Hm, fuel line blocked? This past Saturday I unhooked the fuel filter (why are they under the car) and still no fuel came out. I got mad and brought up Redmontage's page and got to work with the tin snips. Hell, it's a 10 yr old car.
When I looked, I ran up and down the stairs 4 times double checking what I saw... when I reversed the fuel lines it started right up. Needless to say I looked to the neighbourhood and shouted "I am a god!" Or at least smarter than idiot mechanic.
I called them and described the situation and that I had before and after digital pictures and I'd like my money back since I'd effectively reproduced the work they'd charged me for. Owner gulped and asked me to come over tomorrow so we could work something out. I know what I'll work out. I'll let you all know the results, but suffice to say the car sounds fine and my ego is inflated with justification.
