My 95 900 SE v6 (191k) has been the best car I've ever owned. As greg said, you can most likely fix the engine thats in there. Removing the heads, sending them out, and putting everything back together is definatly less work and less money than replacing the engine.
There's alot of misinformation about these engines on this board. most of it by people who have never drivin the 900 v6 parroting what other people have said.
I've owned 30+ SAABs over the years. The 2.5 v6 is a nice little engine. It just needs $600 worth of timing related parts, and a couple evenings worth of work every 60k. Once thats done, they're very reliable. No DI cassetes to fail, no sludgeing, no incorrectly torqued head bolts.
As far as performace is concerned, the v6 900 is no slouch. It will flat out smoke any of my older 900 turbos and my old NG900 with the 2.3. Mine also gets close to 30mpg in a mix of city/highway miles. Thats pretty decent milage for such a high milage car, and I'm in no way easy on it.
