1. Compare real world prices new and used for the brands you consider. Saab is already offering $4500 dealer cash on 2001 models. This is well over 10% of list right off the bat. Dealer will likely give you most of the $3000 spread between list and invoice as well. Suddenly a $42000 car at list is a $35000 car. this on a car early in the model year. The $35,000 BMW moves the other way. Out the door, it will run closer to 40,000 by the itme you add heated leather seats, CD, the sutff people really get. Dealers here in chicago look to get 31000 for 1 year old Saab convertible. A bit over a 10% hit, not really 30% because it went out the door at a steep discount.
2. For 2001, Saab has added traction control, integrated fob, onstar, and SE designation and some other goodies at no add'l charge. In fact the $40K list price is identical to my 1999 base Conv. But like buyers now, dealer took 8K off the top. Each year the car is improved, yet the line is held on pricing.
3. Saab has a great combination of fun and performance for the real world price.
4. My 1999 has been trouble free in the 9 months I have owned it.
enjoy
