Steve,

My service report says this:

"Cust sts car makes wallopping noise in front suspension when going over bumps at low to medium speeds.

Cause:
71101 R&R Front subframe
76210 R&R Front stabilizer bar/bushing cap/rubber bushing

14250 Dry sway bar bushings test drove with ASM over large road humps to verify concern. Heard abnormal front end noise. Put on front end lift and had other technician jounce front end while I listened with a stethescope. Could not get enough movement out of front end to hear noise. Tightened brake caliper mounting bolts, strut mounting nuts and bolts. Lubed accessible bushings. Test drove. Noise was not as loud with sway bar ends disconnected. Removed subframe to gain access to sway bar bushings. Found swaybar bushings dry. Removed sway bar bushings to lube. Refit sway bar and subframe. Test drove. Did not hear any abnormal front end noise."

Not sure what an ASM is. They did a good job and now the front end doesn't seem to bottom out as much on speed bumps and wallows in the road. All servicing was done at Sewell Saab in Dallas. ph #214-350-2000. The service advisor in charge was Casey G Harper. I had this done on Aug 21, 2000. The report doesn't have a number on it, so if you call the dealership and speak to casey, he'll have to look it up manually.

Email me if you want more info and I'll see what I can recall.. BTW, my Saab is a 9-3SE early 1999 model (sold in May, before mid-99 upgrades). It has the factory 16" 3-spoke wheels and Michelin Pilot HX tires. No modifications that would affect the drivetrain of the vehicle (I've added mudflaps and a trunkmat!)

Good luck!

Andrew
