Yes and no. Tread pattern and compound on snow tires is completely different from that on high-perf "summer" tires. That alone will make a big difference. Obviously, a 185 is narrower, and hence will bite better on ice or through the snow, but the section width of the tire is only 20mm (nominally) less than the 205, which is about 3/4 of an inch. While that 3/4 inch will make a difference in snow traction, I would bet the effect of that difference is far less than the other differences between high-perf and snow tread/compounds. Besides, isn't the recommended snow tire for the Viggen a 205/50/16?
In the past I've strongly advocated going with the best snow tire package possible. Where I live we might have 5-7 days each winter where there is 4-6" of snow on the roads. That's too much snow for a low-tread high-perf tire, the stability of dedicated snows is nice, but I'm starting to wonder if 205/50 snows (a la Viggen) might be a better compromise of snow traction and dry (winter) traction. I don't like throwing away the handing of my car for a third of each year (by putting on the 185/65's) for the 1/50th of a year that snow is actually on the ground.
