a fresh paint job, or newly painted car, should not be waxed for about 3 months in warm weather (+60°) and 5-6 months in colder weather (<60°). This is to allow the paint to "harden" or "cure". Waxing can and usually will remove a layer of the paint/finish. By allowing the paint to properly harden, you lessen the amount of paint/finish from being removed.
Since your car was shipped, transported and at the dealers lot, you don't start waiting from the day you bought it, but rather from the date it was produced and approved at the factory. Find out when your car was produced, on your sales window sticker or ask dealer, and figuer out the appropriate time you should wait based on what I said above.
Wash BY HAND with water and a non-abrasive soap and cloth. At this point, keeping your car clean is more important than waxing. Try not to park beneath a tree or anything that birds hang out on:)
After your waiting time is over then buy some good carnuba wax, McGuire's or Mother's, and apply it gently and evenly.
This topic has been talked about here before, so check the archives for more info.
Good luck and enjoy:)
