Clarion in a Houston 9-3?

My father and I both live in Houston and both have 99 9-3's. Mine's a 99.5 - it has the center dash cup holder and automatic visor light, and rides slightly stiffer, but otherwise the cars appear identical. Anyway, I've always noticed that his (early '99) stereo sounds a little different from mine, even though it looks identical. I was just wondering how you were able to ascertain that you have the Clarion deck on yours... Do all early 99's shipped to this part of the country have Clarions? If so, I would bet (and would venture to actually try the fitting) that the Clarion changer would work. It would be odd for Clarion to build just a few units to fill Saab's early 9-3 production incorporating some sort of proprietary standard.
