Just wondering how others feel. Maybe I'm in the minority about OnStar. But, as someone on a budget who hopes to purchace a base 9-3 coupe in 2001, I'd have rather seen SAAB leave OnStar as an option, at least on the base model, and let me choose to save additional dollars when purchacing the car. Wonder how much the equipment itself adds to the price of the car? Maybe its not that much anyway. Anyone know? Maybe it's like many phone plans. The company practically gives you the phone for free. It's the service they make the money on.
Anyway, I already have a digital phone which I carry when driving, and I can of course use the same phone in each of my vehicles and also take it wherever I go. To me, the various OnStar features, while admittedly providing some "peace of mind" value, would not be enough to get me to add the system to the car and sign up for ongoing service if I were given a choice in the matter. I doubt I'd continue to sign-on for continued service once my "free year" of premium service was up.
Of course, I realize that GM is probably insisting that OnStar be included and that the decision was probably out of SAAB's hands.
