Save even more by buying a 99 Cirrus? You must be kidding right? Whenever someone posts a message on Saabnet, who is interested in the Volvo S60, you seem to invariably make your 'infamous', "Looks like a Cirrus" comment. Have you actually driven the Volvo S60 or spent time with it, or is it beyond your competence to give people constructive advice, rather than trite little comments? The Volvo S60 looks nothing like the Cirrus, and is nothing like the Cirrus. Sorry, I guess I am asking too much in this regard.
To answer the original question and for something constructive, the new Volvo S60 is an awesome car. I have driven both the NA 2.4 Auto and T5 Geartronic. The NA 2.4 has adequate power, but the T5 is a real screamer. My impressions and impressions from all the reviews I have read, are about the same. The car does not handle as well as a 3-Series or is as sedate/boring as the ES300, but it blends the best of both worlds. The S60 is a great combination of sportiness and luxury, with world class safety, superior ergonomics, and IMHO-Volvo seats are the best in the industry.
