Hi there,
I've got my 99 base coupe back a while ago and did not keep you informed on the result.
Here is what they changed:
- Gear box. (Was rough with sticky 2nd gear synchro).
- Steering rack and bushings. (car was pulling to the right)
- Front struts and bushings. (wallopping noise)
- Rear seat beam. (rattle)
- Dashboard fascia (the one between the speakers was rattling)
- 1 door latch lock. (ticking noise).
- Complete alignment front and rear done by a specialist.
- 1 seat cable adjustment.(couldn't move forwards).
The result is that my car finally goes straight on flat roads, but is still over-sensitive to road camber. there's apparently nothing else to do since the subframe is not crooked.
The new gear box is much smoother.
Most of the rattles are gone except for a new suspension noise. It's like a
"squealing" noise when going over potholes. They tried to drill bigger holes in whatever bushings to allow pressurized air to get out, but it didn't improve.
The last problem for the undersprayed right side of the car (uneven appearance) was not adressed. It's too bad since the bad paint job is obvious in the sun light or even with a flash light at night. But they don't see it.
Saab USA claim there's nothing wrong with the paint whereas their rep. told me they will repaint it if I really want it done. To bad he didn't write it down.
I selected a good body shop and the estimate was $1,400.00. I guess they already spent too much money fixing the rest of the car. Still, for $350.00 a month I wish my car could look right!
Anybody with a tip on how to convince them to repaint it?
Regards.
Eric.
