Just a note to say that the upgrade to 215/45ZR/17's (from stock 195/60/15)was the best thing I have ever done for a saab! If you are even thinking about it, go for it! The performance increase is amazing! I can't believe it's the same car. It takes steep corners sooooooo nicely at speed now. And from a dead stop, these tires really hold, resulting in great off the line acceleration. I've always thought the engine was just too much for the stock tires, and now I'm certain of it.
I picked up nice alloys (17x7.5 Mille Miglia Sfera SML for $99 each) and Kumho tires (Kumho ECSTA Supra 712 for $95 each) from tirerack.com for about $850 total, delivered mounted/balanced. That's a steal for the performance increase.
I checked the clearance and there is definitely room for more tire on this car without rubbing-- although the 215 is all the tire I need-- 225 will most certainly fit with no rubbing problems.
These tires definitely generate more noise, no surprise here, but it's not as loud as some people make it out. Fairly decent combination with the softer stock suspension, so the potholes don't feel too rough...
I was debating between the 16's and 17's and now that I've been on these, if you're leaning toward bigger wheels, go all the way to 17"
