I don't know what other state laws are but CT only allows a total of four white lights on at one time on the front of a car. With the way my 9-5 is configured, the cornering lights become #5 when the directional is on. I had this pointed out to me by two CT policemen who are friends. If other states have this stupid rule, SAAB may have had to change the configuration. I did read that SAAB spent a great deal of money in developing the original 9-5 lighting as well as working with many government agencies world wide in order to have one standard that satisfied all. This was supposed to be a cost saving measure.
