I just bought a new dryer and went to pick it up at the Sears Dist Center. Of course, the loading guys gave me some wierd looks when I backed up to the dock in a red "sports" car. Much to their surprise it fit fine, in fact with plenty of extra space. You just can't beat that in a car like this.
Despite all the space, I really wish Saab had taken some time to make the hatch more like the C900. The 9-3's rear seats can't fold flat without the front seats pushed to the firewall. Loading and unloading is tougher since it's not a straight shot from the bumper to the front seats. No...they had to add not one but two obstacles on the way. The rear speakers take up way too much room (I wish I could just take them out). And, of course, you have the soft cargo floor. What were they thinking about? On the plus side, the articulating headrest bar thing is nice -- it makes changing from moving van to passenger car and back that much quicker since you don't have to bother removing the headrests.
Someday, I'm going to figure out how to solve all these problems. I already have plans to modify the floor to make it level with the folded seat back, also allowing for some nice permanent storage space underneath.
By the way, anyone ever tried putting the NG900 black plastic rear bumper shield on a 9-3? The top of my bumper is getting pretty scratched up and I'd like to put a more resistant material on there. Maybe I'll just have to fabricate one.
