I live in North TExas, where summer temps run from around 100 to 110 every day. It's one of the worst places for summer, as it's not always a dry heat like Arizona (which is HOT, too!). I notice the loss in power when the AC is at max speed, but it's not huge. But thankfully, Saab engineered a brilliant HVAC system- it will cool the car from hot to comfortable in about 5 minutes after sitting in the sun. Nothing compares.
You want loss of power? Drive your 9-3 from Dallas (elev 7 feet) to Santa Fe (elev 7500+ ft). You can take the ECU fuse out to allow it to readjust, but I didn't find out about that until I got back to Dallas! I barely had enough power to pull away from stoplights in Santa Fe!
