I have the base 9-3, so it didn't come with speakers in the doors. I installed 6.5" Kenwood speakers and they fit fine, but the mounting holes did not line up with the ones for the stock Saab door speakers. I just placed the Kenwood speaker in position, marked the holes, and drilled new mounting holes. The Kenwood speaers came with small clips that clipped over the drilled holes to provide the right size hole for the screw threads. Since the perimeter of the metal cut-out in the doo was slightly recessed, I used a pair of pliers to flare it back out at each of the 3 spots where I had to drill the new holes. Very easy to do.

I would definitely go with 6.5" speakers over 5.25" speakers. Also, putting sound dampening material (Dynamat, etc.) on the back of the door panel as shown in Richard Bevan's Audio Guide in the FAQ section really helps!
