At the end of last year, Saab had a "fire sale" on Viggens. Unfortunately, at that time I was completely broke. When I went to buy my Viggen (a 2-door coupe, not the convertible), I didn't get it for MSRP, but it wasn't a great deal, either. According to the salesman, Saab is holding the supply of Viggens low. Apparently, what happened last year was that Saab sent too many Viggens too quickly, and the dealers just couldn't sell them fast enough. Of course, you have to take anything a saleman says with a grain of salt.
You should be able to get somewhere near invoice for the Viggen. But if there are incentives for the SE models, then the price difference between the two models can be high (at least 5k and maybe as high as 7k or even more). Is the Viggen worth 5k to 7k more than the SE? The Viggen does have a lot more torque, but they torque limit 1st and 2nd, so this is really only apparent in 3rd+. It has great front seats. It looks better. It has a stiff suspension, which is stiffer than the SE. You may or may not like it (heck, I like stiff suspensions, and every once in a while -- like on pavement with annoying bumps every 10 feet -- I wish the suspension was slightly less stiff). Power is immediately apparent, unless you're below 2000 rpm and in 5th, when it takes a little while to catch up to your foot. It's extremely fun, but does have torque steer, especially on rutted and uneven pavement and when turning and gunning it at the same time in low gear.
I bought the Viggen because I buy cars and drive them into the ground (the last car I bought was 15 years ago). So, the price difference for me wasn't as much because I wanted more performance (w/o having to mod) and better seats and 2 doors (the SE coupe has 4).
