Dropoff of Turbo performance on '01 Convertible

I bought my Silver '01 Convertible on April 31 and quickly fell in love with the awesome (to me at least) boost action of the turbo. I went on a long road trip and filled up with 2 tanks of 87 oct. fuel during the long haul. Now with premium back in the tank, performance of the turbo is noticably lacking. Little to no whistle, no more torque steer, very calm, docile turbo boost action. Is this normal? Have I hampered the turbo permanantly? I took it in for the 30 day checkup and they said it was "in spec." Any options to get the cool whistle and press-in-the-seat power back? Help!!
