Nope, fits right in. I couldn't stand driving it. My wife refused to after she drove it a few times. We actually brought the 2nd one back to the rental place for one of their "regular" rental cars. That car was fine.
The Volvo had no power. One was a GLT the other had no turbo. Perhaps there's a limp mode when the check engine light came on? It came on with both Volvos they gave me. The dash was rattling like crazy. A nice big piece of plastic fake wood around the shifter popped out. The handling was like a buick. No road feel whatsoever. There was a major blink spot when you look over your left shoulder. My friend got in an accident with his Volvo for that very reason.
To be honest, I thought the 98s were OK when I drove them, but when I had a 2000 and 2001 rental, I couldn't stand it. The 2001 was the worst.
A Volvo used to be a practical safe car with OK looks. We had one back in the early 80's. Volvo started marketing as if it was a performance car and they came out with a few good ones in the early 90s. Then they "shifted" and "Americanized" it. It's too bad. Softer springs, softer bushings, no road feel. It seems that Ford has done some major "cost cutting" on the 2001.
