Wear out gearbox?

Because of an illness, I have a "weak" right foot. I have just taken delivery of 9-3SE automatic. I thought that getting an automatic would take some strain of "the footwork" while driving (which it does...). I noticed however, that keeping my foot on the brake at traffic lights is an additional stress on the right foot, which I didn't have driving my manual shifted Saab. Will I cause any damage, or extra wear, on the automatic gearbox, when I put the selector in Neutral at longer traffic light stops...
Thanks for your thoughts,
Jan
