......this is not at all unusual. I failed to mention that there are quite a number of long hills on the commute. Speed-scrubbing on the way down a long hill is definitely a factor. The AAA mechanical advisor said there is always contoversy at his shop between people who believe it's easier on the rotors to come to a fast stop than it is to use the brakes gradually to scrub off speed far in advance of the time you need to come to a stop (or slow down for a curve).
None of the drivers of this car rest their foot on the brakes for appreciable amounts of time. It's well know that a lazy foot on a clutch will wear out a clutch. The same principal would apply for brakes.
