I have raced a S2000, IS 300 (just to humor the guy), 300 Z Twin Turbo, 328, M3, and an Acura. I have never gone head to head with an S4 and the Volvo guys usually don't race.
In all case I would say I ended up on top. I wasn't always the fastest off the line, but third gear in the Viggen is where you will always pass them. I had a tough time with the M3 and it was a long drawn out highway drag with traffic. In the end he got the best of me -- it could have been bad driving on my part though. Overall the Viggen really can hold its own. The S2000, IS 300, 328, and Acura were no match. 300 Z was tough --it was funny because the guy caught some rear end torque steer off the line.
I would love to race an S4, but I am not sure I would win. I have an Audi Allroad with the 2.7T under the hood and I know how quick that engine can be. I also test drove an S4 and found it to be very fast...the Viggen was clearly more fun to drive.
In the end it probably comes down to the drive as much as the car -- Saab drives are probably just a bit better;)
