Jerry, I bought a 9-3 and am generally pleased with the handling. The
ride factor was definitely a consideration, since I take my family with
me a lot in the car, and we didn't need to get beat up driving over many of the roads that we do, which might have made the SE less desirable.
As for the handling, there's definitely some body roll at initial turn in, and even with more sustained cornering. In fact, my C900S has the impression of giving less body roll than the base 9-3. But some of the Saab oldtimers say the older C900s that don't have swaybars "handle" better than the later ones that do. I'm not in a position to judge, but the 9-3 will corner at least as fast over the same curves I take as the 900S, most of the time even faster. The MXV4s on my 9-3 grip with enough authority that I simply ignore the body roll, keep on the pedal and let the turbo power me out of the corners. YMMV, of course. If you are really allergic to body roll, you might want the SE, or (to be truthful) any number of competing sedans from other marques. But I'm happy with the car as it is; perhaps it's me getting softer in my doddering middle age:-)
