Not sure if this is same but I have 2001 Viggen and heard ticking noise
coming from left front. After much tinkering figured out it was coming
from clutch housing which is on left side of engine compartment. Also, the noise is much more noticable when there is increased load on engine when A/C compressor kicks on. Try parking close to wall, turning steering wheel full right and turn on and off A/C. I was told at 1000 mi. service by Westport Saab they couldn't locate any noise. At 3k service I held tech's hand to the clutch housing and he finally picked it up. Now they say they have seen it before and it is probably the throw-out bearing for the clutch. If you depress clutch the noise almost disapears so there must be some play somewhere in there causing rattle. They said they will check w/ Saab and are willing to repair it. I'm not so sure I want my clutch housing taken apart for a rattle that doesn't effect performance. Although sitting next to a BMW or an Audi at a light and rattling away isn't so enjoyable either. I'll let you know what happens w/ dealer.
