Continuing AM radio problem!!

First off, I'm just really amazed and disappointed at the same time at how inferior the radio system is in my '00 9-3 base. So, I started out with a problem of AM reception "popping" back-and-forth between good and bad reception. So, the shop decided I needed a new radio. Done. Within a week, my AM reception was nothing but stuttering, popping, piss-poor noise. So, I turned the AM radio on loud, walked back to the antenna, wiggled it and listened to all the noise on the radio. It's the antenna!
Now when I'm listening to AM and I hit a bump, I get this LOUD flurry of static, popping, and noise. PLUS, the reception is just generally BAD.
When will it all end?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!
So, do I need a new antenna? Anything I can do to fix this one? Am I suppose to lube the atenna with a special conductive grease every once in a while? It doesn't seem to be a problem when it's raining, so I was thinking maybe the problem had something to do with the antenna being dry and therefore non-conductive.
Heeelllllllppp!! Dan
