Hardwiring Radar Detector....

Thought I had it all figured out; obviously hardwiring a radar detector directly to the fusebox is no easy feat. I tried using a fuse tap. Seeming easy enough, I gingerly cut the end off of a spare detector cord and proceeded to strip the wire and attach the connector. Everything went together great...except it didn't work. Since the cigarrette lighter runs (alone)off of a 30A fuse, I tried the fuse tap on all of the 30A fuses. NO DICE! If anyone has any good electrical advice on this issue, I sure would like to hear it. Thanks in advance.
