A boost guage is not neccessary to set up the MBC, as most folks just adjust it to be a bit under the fuel cut pressure point which is a bit over 15PSI. So I quess that rules out going over 18PSI eh?
The action the valve can be improved by moving the pressure source to be just after the intercooler or at the bypass valve.
You don't have to fiddle with it all of the time. Do you have one????
I have a pressure tap in the middle of my NG900 IC's integrated return tube. I have not needed to readjust the controller this winter. I did get a fuel cut last week, first one in months.
With the cold air, the power is scary... So I guess that I am thilled with that.
I always advocate a low restriction exhaust with increased pressure. Funny that Abbott does not care... but then the APC is there for Abbott ECU's. Many other sources of MBC's and info recommend low restriction exhausts. This can be done later. Winter temperatures will help. I think that most when they get the BMC experience will then feel better about dumping some money in the low resriction exhaust or going for the modified ECU expense because they now understand what the engine can do.
Someone who runs crappy gas, worn plugs bogus oil should not increase the boost pressure. The MBC's have proven to be a safe mod for a vehicle that is well maintained. The timing and mixture sides of knock control are still in place. The APC does not prevent knock at the target pressures. It just reduces the pressures if something else is seriously wrong.
The biggest danger is a fool who neglects maintenance and oil changes etc.
