Doesn't sound like they are lit coming from the factory for supposed safety reason. My '01 9-5 Aero buttons are not lit. The steering wheel pushbuttons ARE lit on the US$10K cheaper `01 VW Passat, and the US$15K cheaper `02 Nissan Maxima. As someone said in the 9-5 BB, if the driver is to learn/memorize the button locations and functions, why not dim all dashboard buttons so the driver must learn all of the functions thereby ensuring that he has his eyes on the road all the time. IMHO, I believe Saab is simply cutting corners trying to save a buck. You can't keep giving $4,000 - $7,000 off window sticker on your cars without trying to economize somewhere.
