I too have a 2K base 9-3. Picked up new Dec 99, now with 30K miles. I leased it. At about 5,000 miles it needed a new 3rd gear synchro (replaced under warranty), by about 1-1/2 years it needed vent knob control replacement (warrenty as well-but it "feels" like its connected to a rubberband or something) and the 3rd times the charm was the heavy smoke at start-up at 29K. This turned out to be a bad turbo, again replaced under warranty. I guess it could have been worse but when the lease is up Saab is going to really have have something special next fall before I bite again. The car is too small for really anything more than a couple. Its way too narrow and my kids are always kicking the back of the front seats. Yes, it can carry tons with the back seat folded but at the expense of pushing the front seat up too get the back seat to fold, but not flat. I find it hard to drive anymore than 10 minutes or so with such a lack of front leg room. I hope GM takes it to the next level and makes a great car but the current version is way too outdated and outgunned by cars now costing far less.
